The strongest timber boundary

Closeboard fencing is built in place rather than dropped in as ready-made panels. Vertical feather edge boards are fixed to arris rails running between the posts, overlapping each other to create a solid, continuous face.

That construction is what makes it so durable. There are no thin panel frames to twist in the wind, and individual boards can be replaced later without dismantling a whole section.

Why closeboard suits Fleet gardens

Many Fleet homes sit close to their neighbours, particularly on the newer estates, so privacy is usually the first thing people ask for. Closeboard gives a fully screened garden at up to 1.8m without the gaps that appear when cheap panels shrink and warp.

Because it is built on site, closeboard follows uneven and sloping ground far better than panels, and heights can be set to suit the boundary rather than fixed panel sizes. It suits Victorian and Edwardian houses near the town centre as well as modern homes in Church Crookham and Elvetham Heath.

Posts, gravel boards and capping

We usually recommend concrete or pressure treated timber posts with gravel boards at the base, keeping the feather edge boards clear of damp ground, plus a capping rail to shed rain off the top of the boards.

Closeboard takes stain or preservative well if you want to change the colour later. We will walk the boundary with you, check ground conditions and access, and give you a clear written quote after the visit.
